| Plot SummaryF. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, ceases to amaze all those who are privileged of reading the exciting novel. It is brimming with romance, greed, revenge and much more. Fitzgerald captures the American dream by creating a character named Jay Gatsby. Jay is an extremely wealthy individual who resides in West Egg right next to the novels narrator, Nick Carraway. Nick, however, lives in West Egg but has many ties to individuals in the East. Daisy, Nicks cousin, lives in the East Egg with her husband Tom Buchanan. Nick is invited to their house one night where he meets Jordan Baker and is told about Tom's love, Myrtle. Nick is fascinated by Gatsby's wealth and his lavish Saturday parties and wants to learn more about him. Nick is finally given an invitation to one of Gatsby's parties where he meets Jordan once again. They both introduce themselves to Gatsby who wants to speak to Jordan in private. Gatsby tells Jordan about his love for Daisy and the truth about his past, putting an end to all the rumors. Jordan tells everything she knew to Nick and Nick arranges a tea party at his house inviting both Gatsby and Daisy, however, Daisy is unaware that Gatsby is invited. Initially, the meeting does not start off well but through time their love for each other begins to rekindle and they have an affair. Tom Finds out about the affair between Gatsby and Daisy, and is outraged even though he himself is having an affair with his lover, Myrtle. Tom takes Jordan and Nick to New York City to find Gatsby. He tells Daisy that Gatsby's wealth comes illegally and he is not a trustworthy person. Tom tells Gatsby that him and Daisy have a history that Gatsby could never have. To test his relationship with Daisy, he tells her to go back home in Gatsby's car. On the drive back, news spreads Gatsby's car strikes and kills Myrtle. When the tragedy reaches Tom, Tom informs George, Myrtle's husband, that the driver of the car was Gatsby, however, the real driver was Daisy. George kills Gatsby in order to avenge his wife's death and then takes his life right after. |
